“Masa” is a wide bamboo strips divided into sections.
By splitting the bamboo, the thickness is greater than the width, allowing the bamboo to be bent with the outer skin of the bamboo facing upward.

Bamboo crafts have various parts.
Each part is woven according to its own characteristics, such as the type of work and the part to be used.
In this case, we photographed “masa”.
Masa is often used to fill the gap between the rim and the weave, which not only looks beautiful, but also makes the basket stronger and more solid as each part adheres to each other.

柾は、幅のある竹ヒゴを分割したものです。分割することで幅よりも厚みが大きくなり、竹の表皮が上向きのまま曲げることが可能になります。
–柾–
竹工芸には様々な部材があります。
作るものや使う部位など、それぞれの特性に合わせて部材を取り、編んで行きます。
今回は柾を撮影しました。
柾は、縁と編み生地の隙間を埋めるためによく使われており、見た目の美しさはもちろん、それぞれの部材と密着させることで強度も上がり、しっかりした籠に仕上がります。
